Young Adult Ministry
Debbie Cali leads groups for young adults—out-of-high school to mid-twenties—on Sunday evenings at 6:00pm (guys’ group) and Monday/Tuesday evenings at 7:00pm (women’s group) for Bible study, fun and faith development for young adults living in the Manassas area. The groups get together for fun and mission opportunities—check the calendar or the church bulletin for more information!
Grace is also excited to support our young adults who are far away from home at college or in the armed forces—contact us to find out about how you can participate in these ministries. We’re always glad to see our students over their breaks to visit home! This past year, a young-adult-centered (they let a few older folks come along…) mission team headed to Ukraine to work with our covenant missionaries there, David and Shannon Goran, doing campus ministry and church development work with other young adults in Ukraine and leading a Vacation Bible School “Kids Club” in the city of L’viv!
Senior Adult Ministry
Grace’s Loving Hearts Senior Adult ministry seeks to address the spiritual, educational and social needs of the “seasoned” adults in our church and community. These ministries reach out to long-timers in the Grace community and newcomers to the Manassas area to welcome all senior adults into a community of faith and fellowship. The group celebrates those who have been members at Grace for many years, with a special recognition of 50 Year members each summer, but we also welcome those who find themselves looking for a church home in a new place, or perhaps even for the first time. All are welcome and invited to join in!
Under the leadership of Director Nancy Miller and the Senior Adult Council, the Loving Hearts ministry hosts periodic study group opportunities specially geared toward older adults and monthly daytime fellowship opportunities.
Each week, Pastor Rudy Tucker leads a Bible study at the Caton Merchant assisted living home here in Manassas, and senior adults participate and lead many of the Sunday school offerings on Sunday mornings. Seasonally, studies take place at Grace and at The Oaks of Wellington apartment community, our next door neighbors on Hendley Road. Past topics have included Being A Methodist and Christianity and World Religions, as well as seasonal Advent and Lenten studies. Check the calendar for more information about current offerings!
The Loving Hearts’ fellowship gatherings are a great time for everyone! With more than 50 people in regular attendance, these events are favorites in the Grace community and beyond. Whether we’re welcoming the Happy Hoofers senior women’s dance group or gathering for holiday meals together, all are welcome to join in the fun! Occasionally, the Loving Hearts groups also gather for day trips around Virginia and the Capital region, and for intergenerational mission and events. Check the upcoming events for information about these journeys and opportunities.
United Methodist Women
Grace’s United Methodist Women (UMW) sponsors four circles—Alpha, Gleaners, Serendipity and Genesis—that meet for support, education, fun and service for women of all ages. The circles meet monthly at the church or in members’ homes, and they are always glad to welcome newcomers. If you would like to get involved, please contact the church office for more information.
There is also a Young Adult Ministries’ women’s group that meets each week on Wednesday evenings at the church. Each year, the UMW hosts a Women’s Weekend Retreat to get out of town and spend time growing in faith together in a beautiful setting! Registration information is available each year in the early fall. Please contact the church office.
United Methodist Men
Grace’s United Methodist Men (UMM) work to support men’s spiritual growth and service to others. The UMM are faithful mission workers around the church and in the community, making a difference for Christ in all that they do.
There is a weekly Men’s Bible Study on Thursday evenings at 7:15, and men of all ages are welcome to join in this gathering for study and conversation. Spring and fall, the UMM head out for short retreats—with golf and historical study opportunities in addition to spiritual growth goals. The UMM also participates in the Virginia Conference UMM Retreat each fall, joining together with hundreds of men from around the state for prayer, worship and study together.
