Grace is committed to risk-taking mission. Risk-taking mission means different things to different people. We challenge each member to decide what it means in his or her own life. Maybe it means bringing a can of food to share with the Caring and Sharing food pantry, maybe it means donating your time by participating in a local mission project, or maybe it means participating in a week-long mission trip.
At Grace UMC, outreach, missions and service are vital to our growth as Christian disciples. Jesus taught us to "feed the hungry", "clothe the naked", and "care for the poor." We regularly collect food for S.E.R.V.E., a local shelter located just off Wellington Road on Dean Drive. We commission and send out teams of children (Mission Possible), sixth grade students, middle school students, and Senior High students to various mission projects. We have sent adult teams to Russia, Haiti, the Dominican Republic, and also support the local Habitat for Humanity. Through our giving, the church supports local, national, and global ministries and missionaries.

English as a Second Language Classes: Reaching Out to Our Community
Since April 2003, Grace United Methodist Church has offered English as a Second Language (ESL) classes to those in our community seeking to develop and refine their English skills. In 2006, we began a partnership with Manassas’s Trinity Episcopal Church to jointly offer these classes.
Fall classes will be begin at Grace on September 28th through December 3rd. Classes will resumer January 2010 at Trinity Episcopal Church, 9325 West Street in Old Town Manassas. Ph: (703) 368-4231.
In the next few months we will be looking for used lap top computers for our ESL computer lab that we hope to put in place at Trinity next year. They have space for our computer lab. So our program will be even better!
We as so please to share that one of our students became a U.S. Citizen last May. She has been in our program for many years and has worked very hard to take the citizenship test. We are proud of her. We hope to help many other students realize their dreams to become citizens too.
We are seeking students, volunteer teachers and others who would like to participate and contribute to this outreach program.
For those seeking further information about becoming a student, making a donation, teaching or other volunteer opportunities, please call Debbie Dunn at (703)-368-0245.
Mission Team to L'viv Ukraine
Consider joining a team to L’viv, Ukraine! Plans are being made for a mission team from Grace to work with our covenant Missionaries, David and Shannon Goran, in L’viv, Ukraine, during the summer months.
The Gorans minister to college students in L’viv and have extended an invitation for a team to visit and engage the students they work with in English language conversations to help them improve their English speaking skills. In addition, we will assist with Vacation Bible School programs for the United Methodist Church in L’viv and with a VBS program in a nearby orphanage.
There is also a possibility that we may help with some restoration work in an area village. L’viv is located in western Ukraine, near the border with Poland.
This mission trip is open to Grace people including those who are seniors in high school through senior adults. There will be many varied opportunities for the team to help others and introduce those who do not know Christ to the ways of discipleship.

Ernest Hill/Grace Food Pantry
As a congregation, we have realized the need for emergency food assistance in our community. In response, our food pantry was created to help families in their time of need. We ask those whom have room in your budget and the time to do so, please consider donating to this outreach. As demands are ever increasing, we are in constant need of the following items: Drinks(water bottles, juices), applesauce, spaghetti sauce and dinner items(Hamburger Helper, bags of noodles) peanut butter, jelly, jello, small boxes of cereal, snacks (fruit snacks, pop-tarts, crackers), pasta, macaroni and cheese, cans of fruit, cans of tuna, baby items (baby food, diapers), cans of soup, cans of vegetables, and anything else that does not require refrigeration. Please remember to check the expiration dates on the items that you wish to donate as we do not give out expired food.
If you are in need of food, you may come to Grace on Mondays and Thursdays from 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm. Each recipient may recieve food assistance once a month. If you have any questions, please contact our church office at (703) 361-7800.
Caring and Sharing
The Caring and Sharing Ministry combines the Food Pantry and Emergency Financial Resources to those in need in our community.
The Ministry is staffed by volunteers and is available on: Monday and Thursday of each week from 1:00 – 2:00 pm. Recipients of food and financial help are required to come to the church to fill out paperwork providing personal and financial information. Identification and a copy of the utility bill, lease, late due rent notice, etc., are also required.
Financial assistance is available once every six months. This Ministry is supported by generous contributions by members of Grace Church, especially through Communion Sunday Special Offerings and food pantry donations. If you wish to donate food to the pantry or to help with screening of recipients, or simply need more information about this Ministry, please contact the church office or Sharon Berry at 703-361-7800.
